MICK SAYS: "OK, so this is how you do this."
NEO SAYS: A triumphant return to form that Americans mostly didn't get to hear. "Union Sunrise" is probably my best-ever "power to the people, right on" song. "Five Legged Spider" may be my favorite of all the songs I've ever written. Mark is now a well-integrated member of the band and adds a lot to the songs. I love singing his "Basics 101"; it has a great melody and I get to yell "All hope lost!!!!" in the middle. My kind of good-time music. Allison debuts as a songwriter with a heavy Edgar Allen Poe influence. We cover the Fall classic "Frightened", as well as Burt Bacharach's "The Look Of Love", which I'm not as wild about, but Allison sings it nicely and it's fun to play on guitar. Probably our second all-time best album; I'm really proud of it. Carrie is all over this one too. (Coincidence?) Undoubtedly our peak as a cohesive musical unit. Recorded perhaps a bit too quickly at Polymorph Studios in Oakland with Marty Brumbach, who went on to produce Clem Snide with great flair.
