MICK SAYS: "Uh, where do I begin? OK, there was this band, and they had
been
playing together for years and years and years and..."
NEO SAYS: We empty the bag here. Our "White Album", in which Mark,
Allison
and I each have final say about our own tunes. Wally Sound is our most
attentive and sympathetic producer/engineer ever, but we generate enough
conflict among ourselves to keep things tense. Loads of eclectic stuff
spread out over the equivalent of a double album. Meri St. Mary sings lead
on Maati's last (and best) song, "Misadventure". Allison's "Edge
Of The
World" is a heart-stopping masterpiece. Mark's "Needle To The Thread"
could
be a particularly exquisite It Thing outtake. I write an alternative rock
song about how alternative rock sucks called "Mark Time", some good
ominous
protest numbers, and the sprawling true-life epic "I Was A Teenage
Christian". The whole behemoth ends with a sort of Portishead-meets-Wire
lament with the words "WHAT NOW?" screamed over and over.
